Banana Ensete 'Maurelli' Plants

Banana Ensete ‘Maurelli’ is a tropical plant known for its large paddle-shaped foliage and sheathing trunk-like structure. Native to East Africa, this plant is also known as Ethiopian Banana and Red Abyssian. It’s bright olive-green, deep-brown, and red-purple ornamental foliage adds an exotic feel to any indoor or outdoor space. Red Banana Abyssian is fast-growing, so plant it in an area with a good amount of growing space.

Although this plant will grow banana-like fruit, it’s dry and not recommended for eating. Mature Banana Ensete ‘Maurelli’ will flower with white blooms, but younger plants don’t flower for 3 to 5 years. It’s also important to note that when planted in a container, Ethiopian Banana doesn’t flower either.
